In 2015, the United Nations established 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to set the world on a path towards sustainable development and tackle today’s most pressing issues ranging from gender equality and quality education to climate change and clean energy. It is estimated that up to $7 trillion dollars is needed to achieve these ambitious goals by 2030, with the developing world alone having an investment gap of over US$2.5 trillion (UNDP, 2017).
