According to UN Water, as of the beginning of 2022, 2 billion people still lacked access to safe drinking water while 3.6 billion people lacked access to safely managed sanitation services. Poor sanitation practices are widespread causing compounded effects on health. The lack of finance for strengthening an enabling environment in the WASH sector remains unsolved. Far behind meeting SDG targets, we see untapped opportunities in blended finance. To meet the challenges involved in achieving SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation, it is imperative to scale up investments in water and sanitation sectors and look to meet these basic human needs. This calls for leveraging existing financing mechanisms and also for developing new ones. This self-guided course uncovers how finance can drive sustainable WASH projects in countries that need it most and achieve ambitious targets set forth in SDG 6.
Course Objective: To understand how innovative financing mechanisms can help promote water and sanitation in developing countries.
